Mosquitoes love water! Did you know, a mosquito only needs less than a bottle cap full of standing water to lay eggs? Want to know something even crazier? The water can stay frozen for years and the mosquito larva will survive and be ready to grow into adult mosquitoes when the water thaws!!
When a mosquito control specialist treats your yard, the biggest thing they are looking for is standing water. Things lying around the yard that we don’t even think about, like plastic toys, tarps, cans from the night before, etc., are all perfect breeding habitats for mosquitoes. Now, what about the pool? We can’t drain the pool when we aren’t using it? How do you keep your family and friends safe during your pool party?
2 Ways to Keep Your Pool Mosquito Free
- Make sure your pump and filter are working properly. If you are putting the necessary chemicals in your pool and the pump is turning the water over constantly, mosquitoes will not breed there.
- Use a pool cover. When your pool isn’t in use, you can ensure mosquitoes are not breeding if you use a cover. Although these seem as much more of a hassle than our first way, covers can serve as a great physical barrier.
Don’t forget to tend to the areas around the pool, this includes the walk to and from the pool. Make sure there isn’t standing water, or “yard garbage” laying around that become potential breeding habitats.
While partnering with a professional local mosquito control company is the best option to ensure your property, and pool party, stay mosquito-free, there are some things you can do to ensure your next pool party goes off without a hitch!
