Mosquito Control Every 21 Days: The Science

|

Key Takeaways

  1. Mosquitoes not only cause itchy bites but also spread dangerous diseases like West Nile and Zika.
  2. Mosquito control starts with eliminating even the smallest sources of standing water, such as a bottle cap.
  3. Barrier treatments around your property stop mosquitoes that enter and help prevent breeding.
  4. Treatments are repeated every 21 days to match the mosquito life cycle and ensure ongoing protection.
  5. Effective mosquito control is a continuous process, not a one-time fix.

Mosquito control is super important when it comes to creating a safe environment on your property. We do so much to ensure our house is safe, everything from sprinkler systems and smoke detectors to security systems and video cameras, but what about the outside? How do you ensure that you, your family, and your guests are safe in your backyard?

At Mosquito Authority we know that mosquitoes can not only ruin your fun by leaving itchy welts all over your body, but they transmit some of the most dangerous diseases, from West Nile to Zika. This is why it is incredibly important to include mosquito control to create a full property defense, inside and outside.

The 21-Day Mosquito Life Cycle

Mosquito control is based on the three-week life cycle of the typical mosquito. This 21-day span takes a mosquito from larvae stage to full adult. It is commonly known that mosquitoes breed around water. What you may not know is this could be as small as a bottle cap full! This is why the first step in any mosquito control plan should be as follows:

Step 1: Eliminate Standing Water

Mosquitoes breed in water, and it takes only a tiny amount — sometimes as little as a bottle cap. The first and most important step in mosquito control is removing any standing water sources around your property.

Step 2: Apply a Protective Barrier

After eliminating standing water, the next step is to apply a barrier treatment around your property. This stops mosquitoes that enter your yard and prevents them from breeding or resting.

Not a One-Time Fix

This treatment is repeated every 21 days to ensure we continue keeping you mosquito-free, by again walking around your property to eliminate standing water, and creating a barrier to control the adult mosquitoes that may have wandered into your property and keep any more from making their way in.

When it comes to mosquito control, unfortunately, there isn’t a one-time fix. To stay in control of these pests, you must keep up with their life cycle.
